I liked the post on self-promotion and the piece by Ilona Andrews.

Oh, no, it's Friday. I've been avoiding your posts because it's hard to refrain from reading about writing and I know I can't take the time with my work schedule.

Hope you're well. I'll be back to nourish the writing side soon, I hope! And these fine posts will be waiting :)

Thanks for collecting these. Good stuff! Still working my way through.

One thing, though -- per my own article on voice from ages ago, I disagree fundamentally with the voice article's assertion that voice cannot be imitated or changed, and the inherent assumption that each writer only has one voice. I just had to say it *somewhere*. :)

You're welcome :)

Intersting, I didn't think Tracy meant that you've got one voice and you're stuck with it. I read it more as that we have to find our storyteller's voice if we want to really pull the reader in.

Well, I don't think she meant it to feel that way, but it certainly did. The whole idea that a writer's voice cannot be imitated or changed, as she says, indicates that there can only ever be one voice for a writer -- since he/she cannot change it. It's just a pet peeve (so I had to say something somewhere). Hard to ignore peeves, y'know.

At the James N. Frey workshop I attended in March, he recommended spending twenty minutes a day trying to imitate someone else's style. I've had a couple of goes. I t's been an interesting experiment to say the least.

You're welcome, Jenn.

FYI Nathan Bransford holds the record with four entries in the same week.
