Well, I'm glad *I* don't have a cabana boy. That's all I'm saying on that subject.

It's writers getting themselves a cabana boy when they don't even have a cabana that I object.

Interesting posts
How lovely to know that there are so many helpful blogs about writing. You should check out 1stTurningPoint more often, as there are useful articles at least every week (by a variety of authors).

I just got done reading the blog entry, 'Worst Mistakes Authors Make'. I'm an amature and haven't anything published in years but do authors really try to get away with those things? I've always thought that the challenge in being an author was to compete again yourself, not others.

Sad to say, but I think there are people who think there's some kind of trick involved.

Worst Mistakes Authors Make
Hi, Glynisj,

Please don't forget that the piece was titled "Worst..." and that many of the quotes were from readers on the book-related social networking site, GoodReads.com.

So, the answer to you "do authors really try to get away with those things?" is a qualified "Yes," according to readers' perceptions on this particular site. However, only the most inexperienced and most desperate try it.

Unfortunately, given the lack of marketing/promotional support for authors from publishers, also rampant e-book piracy, the increased competition now that many outlets make self-publishing an affordable alternative, reduced print runs, and many more hurdles for entry level authors, there is a lot of desperation.

Also, there is less civility in modern society all across the board.

Yes, I agree. History seems to be repeating itself. Rome is falling.
