The FindAWritingGroup blog

One of the ways in which I plan to promote FindAWritingGroup.com is to ask some of my writer/editor/agent type friends to make the occasional appearance on the FAWG blog, but what should I ask them to do?

If you've got a minute, I'd appreciate your opinion on the following:

Given the choice, what would you prefer to see on the FAWG blog?

Mostly guest posts (with occasional interviews)
9(30.0%)
Mostly interviews (with occasional guest posts)
0(0.0%)
An even split
20(66.7%)
Something else, which I'll mention in the comments
1(3.3%)

What kind of subjects would you like to see guest posts cover?

Anecdotal teaching eg: ‘Learn from my mistake’ posts
4(13.3%)
'How to' guides
1(3.3%)
General writerly-type musings
3(10.0%)
Something else, which I'll mention in the comments
1(3.3%)

If I made the FAWG LJ community the official FAWG blog instead of the one on the website, would you be:

More likely to join the community and/or visit it on a regular basis
19(67.9%)
Less likely
0(0.0%)
Wouldn't make a difference.
9(32.1%)

Thanks in advance for your input.  As always, it's much appreciated.

As for what subjects I would like to see covered, I'd say a fair shakeup of 1, 2 and 3.

Thankee, kindly. :)

Hey--that was a nasty bit of news from Monmouth airport a couple days ago. Was the town in an uproar? Or are you far enough away to escape the hububb?

No hububb hear, I'm happy to say.

I'm more likely to visit an lj community regularly because I visit lj regularly.

Yeah, it makes it so much easier to get the latest entries on the friends page. Plus, I much prefer the way LJ handles comment threads, don't you?

I do indeed prefer lj comments threads. I'd hate to try to read through a Facebook post with 100+ comments, but on LJ it's easy, and really promotes the sense of community, and conversation

I definitely want to make the change - assuming there are no strong objections from the folks who've joined the FAWG community.

I am on LJ more than anything else, so I would find that much more helpful. Additionally, I have found that I am much more likely to read anecdotal or posts that just talk about something rather than an interview. I don't know about other readers, but unless I already know the author and the works I tend to skip over interviews. I feel like anecdotal stories or even musings have the possibility to go much more in-depth than interviews.

That's a fair point. My favorite interviews are usually more anecdotal than fact based, if that makes sense :)

All of what you mention is interesting. Given that the title of your proposed community is "Find a Writer's Group," you might want to add reviews/links to writer's groups that are looking for new members. And inviting people in writer's groups to post information both about online group they're in and face-to-face writer's groups.

Good point. Mind you, I don't want to get into reviewing critique groups - down that route lies potential for all manner of unpleasantness of the he said/she said kind.

However, I was thinking of having 'Pimp your writing group days', where folks can talk up their writing groups or find people to set up new ones (especially online).

I think this community could be useful and a lot of fun, but it's the main FindAWritingGroup site (and related Yahoo groups) which will provide the best way for people to find existing organisations and locate writers in their own state/country.

Knowing me, the LJ blog would be the most visited.
