FindAWritingGroup.com is now officially up and running!

I've already got a few FAWG links set up.  If you'd like to help, please consider doing the following:

- Start or join a FAWG Yahoo group in your state/country.
It's a free to join/free to use service.  Add details of your writing group(s) to the relevant
FAWG link. If your country/state doesn't yet have one, consider setting it up yourself.

- Spread the word.
Please tell your blog readers and current writing group members about FAWG.com. If you’re feeling especially helpful, you could add a permanent link to
FindAWritingGroup.com to your blog’s sidebar (Home/Customize Journal Style/select ‘Links List’ (below ‘Customize your theme’)

- If you haven’t already done so, add your writing tip to the Wall of Wisdom.

- Lastly, please consider adding the site's blog, Write Around the World, to your Favorites (or RSS thingy).
Over the coming months I hope to provide some great writing posts and helpful links there.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.  I'm particularly grateful to those folks who've already started spreading the word.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

I have a question: why Yahoo? Would FindAWritingGroup be opposed to other platforms? Like Livejournal?
Jan. 27th, 2010 05:57 pm (UTC)
I thought about LJ, but I figured Yahoo has a wider reach than LJ. Also, on a Yahoo group you can create seperate folders within the links section for individual counties within each country/state, which I figureed would be very useful.

That said, if there's a way to sort out the potential links problem, I can't see any reason why we couldn't have an LJ FAWG group for a particular country (or any other platform, for that matter).

What did you have inmind.

Cool, I'm glad to see this is going well. I have a few places that I will bring it up and hopefully that will give it a few extra eyes stopping by.

Thanks, Aaron :)

I hoping to use the Write Around The World blog as a way to keep people aware of the site. I've a wish-list of guest-posters I'd like to have on there.

Had this been called DetectAWritingGroup.com, you could have referred to it as DAWG.

Hi. Well, I tweeted it, and put the link on my FB page. I will try to remember to blog about it some time soon.

Good luck!

Hey Jon, yay, you're up and running!! Since there is nothing for Louisiana, I guess that means I have to do something about it. I'm a bit technically challenged, but I'll try and figure it out.

Excellent! Let me know when the Yahoo group's up and I'll add the link to the main site.

Thank you :)

Please do, and thanks :)

Two things:

1. My writing group is already a Yahoo group. But you only want one per state, right? So I would go to the FAWG for Illinois, and put the link to my group there, rather than sending you the link to my existing group?

2. I think it would be helpful if the main FAWG groups allowed non-members to view their links. That way, if someone who either doesn't have a yahoo account or is shy is searching, they don't have to join the group just to check if there's one in their city.

If there isn't already a FAWG link for Illinois, and you wanted to use an existing Yahoo group, that would be great (it's what I did for the New Jersey link).

If you decide to do that, don't forget to let me know, and send me the relevant bio and links.

I'm not sure it's possible for Yahoo Groups to let non-members see their links. Besides, folks can always set their email option to 'Web only' (which means no e-mails at all) when they join, though I would hope people use the Yahoo groups as a way of keeping in touch with other writers.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for taking an interest :)

What a great idea, Jon. I posted the link to Facebook.

Thank you. I apprciate that :)

Hey, it worked! Thank you for providing the instructions on how to include links. Now, I want to change my journal style a bit so that they appear in a sidebar rather than remain lost in the little parenthetical note at page top, but at least they're there.

Now, to see if I can find time to use them too! Hope to.

Excellent! Thanks, Pat :)

OMG you are good! Will set up links asap (after supper). Meanwhile, I nominate you the next Harold Underdown for services rendered. (In case you're not in that part of the writing world, he runs The Purple Crayon website for children's/YA writers.)

Well, thank you :)
