Exactly one year ago today, I made my first blog post here on Live Journal .

Looking back, I remember how nervous I felt about posting my thoughts online. What if nobody read them? What if people thought I was stupid or told me I didn’t know what I was talking about?

Only one person commented on that first post (my friend from the GSHW,
dqg_neal ). The fact that someone not only read the entry, but took the time to leave a remark, gave me the confidence to keep at it.

That’s not to say I haven’t made mistakes. I know for certain that I’ve (albeit unintentionally) upset some people as I learned how different folks use their journals, and how they have their own ideas of what kind of feedback they want from their readers.

Still, on the one-year anniversary of that debut entry, I feel much more confident, and very comfortable within the LJ community.

Would I have kept at it if no-one had commented on that first post? I hope so, but in any case, I’m most grateful to Neal for taking the time to respond. I’m sure he forgot about it soon after, but it made a big difference to me.

How about you?

lol, I had to go look this up, my first post was April 2003, and my first commenter was the friend who set my account up (I joined mostly because this was a good way to keep up with this friend, so I could be reassured they were doing ok - in fact they were so insitent they created my account, and made my icon) However they have gone through several account name changes, so it shows them up as deleted. We discussed Harry Potter dvds as a means to keep the kids entertained while I wrote.

Interesting. Do they still work?

not on those particular kids, but they are mostly happy to let me write in peace now anyway, as they've mostly all left home - and the younger ones are not so interested in HP. Brum, or Danger Mouse, on the other hand ...
