Yesterday, when we'd finished clearing up after Christmas dinner (we had lamb this year, which was quite a change, but very tasty), we sat down to watch Pixar's Up.

In case you've not seen it, I won't post any spoilers, except to say that, as with all Pixar movies, I found it thoroughly enjoyable, while at the same time not being at all like the type of movie I'd expected.  An extra treat was the teaser trailer for next summer's Toy Story 3.

Of course, this being the Christmas season, there are other movies on my 'must see' list this week.
In 1999, The Shop Around the Corner was remade (and updated) as You've Got Mail, with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the lead roles, but that version can't hold a candle to the charm of the original 1940 version.

One of my all time favorite movies, The Miracle on 34th Street has been remade several times since it first hit the big screen back in 1947.  Although I like the 1994 effort, with Richard Attenborough playing the role of Kris Kringle, if I had to choose, I'd pick Edmund Gwenn's portryal of old Santa every time.

How about you?

Which movies are on your 'must see' list over the holiday season?

I enjoyed the White Christmas marathon on AMC on Christmas Eve. Had it on all day until my hubby went crazy and went to sleep to escape it. And I have to watch Its a Wonderful LIfe every year because what's Christmas without Jimmy Stewart? I loved UP, too, but I don't think it's a little kid's movie, particularly. The grandtoddler has seen the first half and liked it, but not too sure he won't be scared by the dogs and the Mean Old Man in the last half. Now to rent movies: Inglorious Basterds is on my list as well as a couple of others that just came out that I can't recall at the moment. Saw District 9 last night. Um.... disappointment! Given it was PEter Jackson and all.

I'm not expecting too much from District 9, so hopefully it won't disappoint - if that makes sense :)

It does make sense. I was expecting something different. ... WEll I got something different, because the movie is definitely DIFFERENT! Maybe I expected something more traditional!
