Lots to look forward to this month

The next few weeks should be exciting.

Aside from the Meager Puddle of Light Award for Best Opening Line - if you'd like to take part, the entry doors are open until 11:59pm US/Eastern this coming Friday - I'm also finishing the penultimate draft (hopefully) of Waking up Jack Thunder  for those poor unfortunate devils  my three wonderful beta readers.

I'll get it printed out in time for Saturday's critique group get-together, which takes place after the diner-munchies following this month's GSHW meeting.

The GSHW's special guest on November 14th is literary agent, Cherry Weiner.  I've met her several times now.  A couple of years ago, she not only let me interview her for the Monmouth Writer's website, she then came to speak to the group a few months later.  I also owe her a debt of gratitude for recommending The Write Stuff conference (next years' will be my third).  If you'd like to come along, the GSHW meeting takes place at Monmouth County Library (HQ), Manalapan, NJ 07726 - starts at noon.

Cherry's a real firecracker who takes no prisoners, but she's also a wonderful lady.  I hope you can make it, but for those who live too far away, here's a link to that interview I mentioned.

The following weekend is PhilCon.  This will be my first time there, but I know the GSHW attend in force each year.

How about you?

What's on your schedule for November?

You know, it's just getting totally out of hand, how almost EVERY SINGLE CONFERENCE I want to attend falls on some event I can't get out of--like Philcon (my mother ended up planning the family reunion for THAT weekend, of course!) and now The Write Stuff--which happens to fall on my birthday. Dagnabbit!!!

However...it IS my birthday. Hmmm...

It really is ridiculous, how all these things fall on my kids' birthdays or Valentines day (Boskone last year, though I did manage to pull a Friday night out of that weekend to attend two panels and see some friends.) Last year's WorldCon in Montreal was close enough, but it was the week before going away to Myrtle Beach. I will SOMEHOW make it to World Fantasy next year on Ohio!!! But something will come up. It always does. What I should do is register early and then when that something comes up I can say, "Sorry! Can't make it. I have plans."

Sigh. But I'm going to get more details on the Write Stuff, see if I can wrangle it. If it wasn't March, I could tote my husband along and tell him to go play golf, but I think it might be a little cold at that time of year, don't you think? :)

The Write Stuff is excellent. I highly recommend it :)

There is very little in the way of info up right now (or did I miss something.) I'll have to figure out if it's worth screwing up my birthday for. :)

Thank you! Now I have a question for you--is the conference horror-based? Genre? What's your take?

Each speaker's talk tends to be flavored with his/her chosen genre, but the conference is for writers of all kinds.

I've only been to one other conference (the BEA NY in 2007). I much preferred the friendly atmosphere at the Write Stuff.

I hope you can make it :)

Thanks, Jon!

I'll have to consult with the fam. Birthdays are kind of...involved in this family. There could be a coup if I tell them, "Sorry, kids. I won't be here for my birthday this year."

Thanksgiving! And Disneyland! And not in that order! We leave Friday.

*It's a small world after all ... it's a small world after all...*

Sing along!

Disneyland = :)

Lots of writing (expanding dark paranormal novella into a novel), lots of marketing (querying agents for fantasy saga book 1), said novella being critiqued at this month's meeting, some time at the movies (Ninja Assassin is finally here), and quality holiday events with the familia.

I don't think I've left anything out...

Sounds good to me :)

Not too much actually. Work my regular schedule, buy Christmas presents, have a great Thanksgiving. That is pretty much my agenda :0)
