A change of plan

I had to take one of my teenage daughters to see the doctor this morning.  I'm not sure what's wrong with her, but she's definitely a little under the weather.

One of the many downsides of being severely autistic is that she can't tell anyone what hurts or where.  It took a good ten minutes to get her to allow someone to check her inner-ear.

The Doc wants a urine and blood sample.  For the blood sample, I'll have to literally hold Rachel down while they get the needle in her arm.  Never fun for either of us.  She was already stressed from the ear inspection so I've put that off until Thursday - hopefully she'll get better over the next day or so and won't need it.

As for the urine sample, let's just say I'd gladly swap places with that kid who got the T-Rex pee in the third Jurassic park movie and leave it at that.

Since Rachel clearly wants an afternoon of snuggling up on the couch, watching Disney movies with her dear old dad, the latest installment of The Fine Art of Self-Promotion will have to wait for another day.  On a brighter note, no doubt inspired by all the chat about steak & kidney pie in my last post, Senior Management made a batch of her world famous sausage rolls yesterday.  Yum!

I hope your Monday's going well.

I worked an H1N1 clinic last week. All those distressed kids freaked out by the notion of something being squirted up their noses! So adorable, and yet so heartwrenching. I'm glad I wasn't sitting so close when I did the flu shot clinic!

Hope Rachel is feeling better soon, and that dad gets over the pee-xtravaganza.

Thanks. Luckily, she's on the mend, so it won't be needed :)

I hope Rachel recovers as quickly and painlessly as possible!

Mmm, did you say sausage rolls? ..... my British mother-in-law got me hooked on them. Now I get my husband to make them for me around the holdiays. Now don't be shocked.... but I actually have him use vegetarian sausage for me. Unless I'm eating them side by side with the real meat version, I can no longer tell the difference.

It could have been worse. At least it was Disney and not Barney the Dinosaur.

Thanks :)

Whew! I'll think good thoughts for no need for a blood draw.

Hurrah for sausage rolls! BD reported that she just had the best pork of her life at the Cork Jazz Festival this past weekend. She bought it from a stall where they were cutting it off the roasted pig right in front of her and serving it on a nice sturdy bap.

Oh, best to both of you. It's so hard restraining your kid when you know they're upset. We've been through it a bit with my oldest (when she was younger). I'd end up crying to, which was no help. I hope she relaxes and it all goes as smoothly as possible. And that she's well!

Thanks :)

It looks like the blood/urine tests won't be needed (this time).
