What are you reading?

I just started reading Goblin Quest, by [info]jimhines

I'm only a few pages in, but I've already seen enough to make me add the two sequels to my Christmas wish list.

How about you?

What are you reading at the moment?

Which books are on your wish list?

I'm rading Kill All the Judges by William Deverell, a mystery writer from Vancouver, BC. I also have the new Louise Penney that I just bought. I'm looking forward to it even though I don't recall the title offhand.

I read an awful lot of mysteries, and I really like Canadian books.

I haven't read Louise Penney, but she writes the Inspector Gamache books, yes?

I am just finishing up Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides
(I am a slow reader) On my wish list is Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood.
I also purchased Goblin Quest by Jim C. Hines a while back, and it is still in my to read stack. I hope to get to it soon.

Sounds like you've got plenty in the pipeline :)

The problem with a Kindle is, you can read six books at once. I recently finished MULITREAL, by David Louis Edelman (science fiction), THE SHANGHAI MOON, (mystery) by SJ Rozan, and WHEN YOU REACH ME, (middle-grade, very good spec fic book) by Rebecca Stead. I am in the middle of HOW NOT TO MAKE A WISH, by Mindy Klasky (chick lit fantasy), USE OF WEAPONS, science fiction by Iain M Banks, and PERDIDO STREET STATION (science fiction) by China Mieville.

Six at once? I can just about reading two. Any more than that and I get confused :)

Right now I'm reading Moon Medicine by Mike Blakely. Nothing of note on my wish list, though, at the moment. But that can always change.

There's the wish list, then there's the TBR pile too. Anything on that?

Almost done reading Mike Carey's The Devil You Know, which I'm enjoying.

I'd really like to read Hines' Stepsister Scheme...it's on my TBR pile. God, there are just so many books.

I like Jim's sense of fun. I'm thinking my soon to be 16yr-old son would like the Goblin books.

Sun Tzu's "The Art of War"! Kinda dry, but interesting.
Oct. 14th, 2009 09:11 pm (UTC)
Sounds like the kind of book you'll b eglad you read, but won't be reading a second time :)

I just happen to be reading a Jim Hines book as well. The Mermaid's Madness, the second in his Princess series. Quite fun.

I'm trying to decide whether his humorous writing style is more like Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams. At the moment I'm going with Pratchett, would you agree?

The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. So far, so excellent.

Goblin Quest, huh?? I'll have to go check that out.
Oct. 14th, 2009 09:41 pm (UTC)
I'm certainly enjoying it so far :)

I couldn't agree more. GQ is a great book.

I'm currently reading The Dispossessed (in a lovely Easton Press edition), and can't buy any more books because my house is in imminent danger of collapsing under the weight of my to-be-read-pile.

Lol :)

I'm rereading A NORTHERN LIGHT by Jennifer Donnelly. Her use of historical detail is amazing!
Oct. 15th, 2009 09:57 am (UTC)
Okay, who else thinks that was Jennifer Donnelly, pimping her own book? ;)
Oct. 14th, 2009 10:46 pm (UTC)
I'm reading the latest issue of Asimov's. My wishlist? Hm, need to look at the new releases first.
Oct. 15th, 2009 09:58 am (UTC)
That's the trouble with wish-lists, there's always a new book on the horizon :)
Oct. 14th, 2009 11:31 pm (UTC)
I am currently reading Carl Hiaasen's "Scat", one of his young adult novels. He is a favorite of mine.

On my wishlist? The Endless Forest: A Novel by Sara Donati; The Complete Conan Chronicles: Robert E. Howard (I've read them all, ages ago and would like to read them again. I re-read things I love), The Sookie Stackhouse books: Charlaine Harris, whatever the next NumberOne Ladies Detective Agency book will be: Alaexander McCall Smith, and many more...

My wife has a few of the Number One Ladies Detective Agency books. I've only seen it on the telly, but I plan to read the books too at some point :)

I just adored Goblin Quest! :D

I'm only on chapter three at the moment, but I'm loving it so far :)

I just finished reading "Mansfield Park" by Jane Austen (loved it!). I am almost done with "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult and am about to start "Northanger Abbey" by Ms Austen.

I have a number of books waiting to be read, so nothing on my wish list at the moment. :)

I try to read every book on my TBR pile, but some of them never quite make it to the top. Does that happen with you?
