A question for my American friends

Back in England, we don't have a Sherlock Holmes Day, so why do you guys have one for Columbo?

It could be like Red-Nose Day, only with Deer-stalkers :)

We don't have Guy Fawkes Day, either, so we just settle for blowing shit up all year round.

I've been trying to think of a possible American equivalent to Bonfire Night. How about a Lee Harvey Oswald Day, where everyone could hide in a grassy knoll? :)

If he was so clever, how come he was always the last one to figure out the killer's identity. The audience always knew who it was, long before he did :P

I heard the guys used to dress up too. they'd put on a dirty macs and shuffle around Malls, looking dishevelled, but they kept getting arrested :)

I always wondered if the bonfires were to celebrate Parliament not burning down or to console the Guy for trying.

After I had kids, I loved the Columbus Day holiday because I was off work but they weren't off school. Now that was a real holiday.

Lol, I think it's subjective :)

Aw, we can't get enough of the trench coats.

My favorite Columbus Day tidbit this year was the library that announced it would be closed for Columbus Day over a photo of a Viking dragon ship.

Or maybe we should think of it as Peter Falk's day?

Is there a Sherlock Holmes day? That's great and well deserved. He is after all one of the greatest literary characters of all time. Columbo was a fine TV character but he can't quiet measure up to that.

It's Columbus Day, in celebration of all the great movies written and directed by Chris Columbus, like Gremlins, Home Alone, The Young Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter and SO many others.

Though I'd almost prefer Columbo day... we'd get to smoke cigars.
