What’s going on at your local library?

Monmouth County Library (HQ), Manalapan, has played an important role in my writing career. I’ve borrowed hundreds of books from them over the last nine years, including dozens of audio versions (I’m currently listening to Suddenly Supernatural by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel, narrated by the excellent Allyson Ryan).

Suddenly Supernatural

The first writing group I ever joined (the Monmouth Creative Writing Group) met, and still meets, there.

Back in 2009, they hosted the very first New Jersey Authors’ Network

In the two years since my first book came out in paperback, they’ve invited me to give solo talks, and take part in themed events like last year’s Manalapan Comic Con, featuring the 1960s Batmobile, and the upcoming Pawsitively Animals celebration on September 22nd.

But it’s not all about writing. They host groups like the local chess club, bridge club, a Mahjong club etc. They host movie showings, as well as informative and/or teaching sessions on everything from how to write an email to English conversation classes, to advise on tax returns.

Here’s a sample of what you can find at MCL(HQ) Manalapan, over the coming weeks (see the library's website for full details):

Thursday, August 15th (7pm) - Raconteur Radio Presents: The Great Gatsby

Sunday, September 8th (2pm) - Jazz Concert with Houston Person and Quartet

Saturday, September 21st (11am, 1pm and 3pm) - Internet Cat Video Festival

Sunday, September 22nd (1pm - 4pm) - Pawsitively Animals

Sunday, September 29th (2pm) - Tim Mcloone and The Shirleys with The Atlantic Coast Band

Thursday, October 3rd (7:30pm) - Concert for the Renaissance of the Jersey Shore with the Medieval Baebes

Saturday, October 5th (2pm) - Author, Eloisa James presents Chasing Lizzy: A Celebration of Jane Austin (in honor of the 200th Anniversary of Pride and Prejudice)

How about you?
