How was your weekend?

I had a great time at the Jersey State Feline Fanciers Cat Show over the weekend.

jerseymap

So tempted to bring home a furry addition to the family, but I had strict orders from Senior Management. We both would love a cat, but sooner or later, I know one of my daughters would end up trying to take the wrapper off, which wouldn't end well for either girl or the poor animal.

I've never been to an event like this before, but when you have a book about a talking cat, it makes sense to have an author table at this sort of thing. I expected a lot more tension, what with people wanting their cats to win the various competitions. Not a bit of it. The whole show had a wonderful, family atmosphere. Everyone seemed to know everyone, even the vendors.

All in all, a long, but thoroughly enjoyable two days.

How about you?

Co-incidentally enough,
I bought a bag of cat gravel yesterday.

Preposition trouble
Made FOR cats,
not OF cats...

D'oh! When you said you were going to the cat show, I thought to myself, "I didn't know Jon was so fond of cats." Silly me. I hadn't even thought of the book angle! And that is why you are a marketing genius and I am, however sparkly, NOT!

Take a lesson, as they say.
It might ever be tax deductible.
The trip, not the lesson.

I can't claim credit for the idea. My friend, Elektra Hammond, recommended it :)

If you are serious about one day having a cat, one thing you can do is bring the girls to an animal shelter to meet cats and see how they interact. There are also therapy cats for autistic kids that are trained to be patient and helpful.

I've never seen a cat show but it sounds like a whole lot of fun!

Thanks, Laura, but I'm not exaggerating when I say they'll try to take the wrapper off.

Oh dear. I guess your cats are best admired from a distance then, indeed.

I have to get to a cat show one day. Did you sell any books?

Yes, quite a few. I hope to do even better next year, because I'll have Barnum's Revenge too, as well as the ability to take debit cards :)

I didn't realize the book angle either until you spelled it out. But it sounds like fun. I'm such a huge cat person - why have I only been to dog shows, when I don't even really like dogs?!

I had to laugh about 'taking the wrapper off', although it sounded really gruesome.

As for me, I took the plunge last weekend and sent a short story to Dreamspinner Press, for an anthology they're planning. Big, big step forward for me, the first time I've tried to get anything published. Scary!
