What have you been up to lately?

These last two weeks ran away from me a little. My '10 Things Every Writer Should Know' talk at Bridgewater Library went very well. Somerville TV recorded it for broadcast on local television the following week.

My basement desktop died last Thursday, which caused a fair amount of inconvenience. I have all my important files backed up, so I didn't lose anything, but I spent most of the day trying to breathe some life back into the poor thing. I still haven't bought a replacement (I'll probably do so next week).

Last Friday, I gave my very first after-dinner talk. My friend and fellow NJAN member, Marykate Schweiger (who writes as M. Kate Quinn) and I spoke to members of the Porch Club of Riverton, a federated women's club founded in 1890. The lunch was held at the Riverton Country Club. Good food, excellent venue, delightful company. I had a great time.

After two NJAN panel/Q&As the following day, I took Sunday off. Senior Management and I treated our daughters to a trip to the local diner. Afterwards, we drove to Monmouth Battlefield State Park, where we enjoyed a leisurely stroll to work off those tasty sausage, egg and chip meals.

Yesterday morning was my girls' IEP meeting. They always leave me feeling somehow uplifted and depressed at the same time, so after working on edits for Barnum's Revenge for an hour or so, I mostly pottered about for the rest of the day.

This morning, I set to work on Abraham Lincoln Stole my Homework. After my experience last winter, when I got myself in a right pickle trying to weave in a last minute sub-plot to Barnum's Revenge, I decided the best way to make the changes I want to incorporate into ALSMH was to start from scratch. I've redone the outline and have started the rewrite. 10K words in, things are progressing much faster than they did with BR - they're certainly less frustrating!

This afternoon, I visit Bayshore Middle School (in Leonardo, NJ). I've never done a book club visit before, so I'm extra excited.

How about you?

Hot damn, you're a busy man!

I envy and admire all the appearances and such you do. Can I hire you as my publicist!? Ha!

Gads, I need SOMETHING. I've done almost no promoting for A Time Never Lived. I have GOT to get my time under control.

I know what you mean about the IEP; uplifting and depressing. We haven't had K's meeting yet this year. I'm both looking forward to it and dreading it. I do think she's doing much better--and has been seizure free for several months (knock on wood and all those other superstitious things *grin*). She's still WAY behind though and it's tough to see her struggling.

Sounds like you've been super busy--but having lots of fun too. =) Hope your school visit goes well!!

Fun is always part of the plan :)

Totally with you on the IEP meetings. There's that awful balance of, "They've done this well, but..."

As for me, I've been working on lots of little writing projects.

Just so long as you're keeping busy :)

Getting ready for NaNoWriMo, or trying to; and also trying to find the damn doctor's number because with the interstitial lung disease, and her giving me the wrong telephone number ofr the other doctors she wanted me to see, and...yeqa. So between pondering NaNoWriMo, trying to catch my breath, and trying to deal with doctors... fun.

I wish you luck on both goals :)

Thanks. At lest there's been some progress on the medical front. The receptionist for the first doctor that my doctor had me call couldn't even spell "interstitial". The second time, score. I'm waiting to hear back from them, they're looking up my files. And they actually know what interstitial lung disease is, too.

You've had a busy (& not always fun) few weeks!

My October has been very trying. Hubby, Munchkin & myself have been taking turns catching several bugs so it's been a revolving door of not-feeling-well. And October's always affect me - the seasonal thing. S.A.D. makes me sad! :( I want to say we've had very trying clients at work recently but I think that's just me being more sensitive than usual, too. All in all, I'm ready for November, Thanksgiving & the holiday season!!

Oh - I saw a video today and immediately thought I should share it with you! http://www.wimp.com/romanticproposal/

I just went to the Kelly Writer's House on the Penn campus and participated in a poetry webcast today. It was a lot of fun!

It's great to hang out with other writers, don't you think, Laura? :)

Definitely! And we're going to work on putting together a student anthology. It's been a great poetry class.
