Thanks, Stacy. I've written lots of song lyrics, but I haven't written a poem in many a long year (unless you count the ones which start with 'There was a young man from... or the like) ;)

Thanks, Mary.

I'm sure I'm not the first to paraphrase the man who makes exceedingly good cakes (and I won't be the last), but I had fun writing it :)

Very nice. I remember my creative writing teacher back in community college having the class rewrite Robert Frost's "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening". Personally, I've written 2 different versions of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" - one for family members and the other covering all my college housemates.

I liked it -- except for accepting the judgement of "This is utter crap!" Even the twaddle I wrote decades ago before I got serious has some redeeming feature, whether it's a sympathetic character, a lovely bit of world-building that I might make use of again, or an interesting twist in the set-up.

Except for the terms used in some of the stances, this poem would be great for anyone to read and maybe pin to the wall just above their desk. Absolutely wonderful, Jon.

Spell check is such a funny mammal, isn't it. Many times, it seems that no two programs have the same quirks: which, of course, is the strongest existent argument in favor of proof-reading.

Funny thing about the "utter crap". I've never gotten that form of rejection. Mostly, it's been "this doesn't suit our needs at the current time". The most maddening one was where they wrote in a note that they passed the story around (humor) and all got a good chuckle from it, but decided it did not fit their editorial needs. Always encouraged to send something else, but... lol.

With the critic line, I was thinking more about critique groups, which sometimes contain the harshest of critics. As for publishers and agents, a hand written note always provides a 'savor the moment' moment, unless the note reads 'Please don't send you work to us again.' or something similar ;)
