Which do you prefer, Firefly or Doctor Who?

No spoilers, because I know some of my Whovian friends haven't yet had the chance to watch the first two episodes of the latest season of Doctor Who, but I'm so impressed with the quality of writing from Steven Moffat (who also writes Sherlock, another must-see TV show).

Steven's brilliant scripts, coupled with great acting from Matt Smith (who plays the Doctor so well, I'm prepared to consider calling him my equal favorite doctor  - if you're wondering, Patrick Troughton has always been the best Doctor, so far as I'm concerned) are so good, I'd have a hard time choosing between Matt Smith's Doctor Who adventures and Firefly, as my favorite TV show of all time.

How about you?

I haven't seen it since David Tennant was on. Is it showing in the States yet? Since I haven't seen the new Dr. Who I won't vote yet. It would be a hard vote either way. They're very different.

It's on BBC America and Netflix streaming, but I haven't seen it elsewhere (except on DVD).

Patrick Troughton is my favourite Doctor too. Such a shame so few of his stories remain in the BBC Archive.

I watched the surviving episodes on DVD a couple of months back (along with the William Hartnell ones). Great fun :)

Thanks, Jon. I'm not sure my cable gets BBC America. I'll check hulutv.

I've not used Hulu, but if they're any good, I'm sure they'll have it too

I tried hard to like Firefly. I loved the ambiance, the setting, the concept...but the characters...I just couldn't like any of them...

But I've been a fan of the Doctor since the late 1980s.

I love all the Firefly characters, especially Jayne :)

I've never seen Dr. Who, so for me, Firefly won hands down simply because I've seen it. I was rather an unwilling fan - I didn't really like it at first, but the more I watched it, the more I found myself getting sucked into it. And like the photo says, I'm still upset that it was cancelled. :)

...I'm still upset that it was cancelled.

Since May, when I first created that picture, it's had over 3,000 shares on Facebook, so you're not alone, Kay ;)

I don't think you're meant to take Doctor Who as seriously as Firefly, but both shows suck you in and never let you go :)

Lots of people haven't seen Firefly. Think of it as a future treat ;)

Do you get the latest series in Germany when we do, or is there a delay, Mark?

I love Firefly, but the Doctor is my great passion and certainly wins hands down over Firefly or anything else (even the beloved Buffy). Yes, Matt Smith is equal best doctor — equal with Tennant, that is.

It's funny how every doctor is different, but we love them all :)

It's a tough decision, to be sure. The thing which most surprising me was how Matt Smith did such a great job, I now unable to choose between the two shows :)

I have never-ever-ever seen even one episode of Dr. Who, so I disaqualify myself from voting.

Coffee. ;)

But, seriously, I came into watching Doctor Who back when Jon Pertwee was in the title role. I consider myself a Who-fer.

Have not seen Firefly.May watch it, at some point. Refuse to watch the new Battlestar Galactica, because I miss the old one, when Starbuck was still a guy, and Lorne Green was Commander Adama (if memory serves, that was the name). It was a show, affectionately referred ot as Battlestar: Ponderosa in the circles to which I was privy: and Lorne Greene also did radio commercials for Riverhead Savings Bank, before the Borg the Bank of New York assimilated the franchise. That was before they moved The Big Duck, for the first time, I think; definitely before they moved The Big Duck for the second time.

You're quite right, Elizabeth, Lorne Greene was his name :)

I saw Serenity before I saw Firefly so that may be why I ruined it for myself - I liked the movie so much and the show just didn't quite live up to it for me. Dr Who I have yet to see but I have heard it's better than Star Trek so I gotta check it out. :)
