Share a favorite entry from your blog

To celebrate getting my official 1,000,000th page hit here on An Englishman on New Jersey, I thought it would be fun to have another SAFE FYB (Share A Favorite Entry From Your Blog) week.

If you’ve got a golden oldie you’d like to share, post a link to it in the comments for other folks to read. Throughout the week, I’ll cut & paste those links here.

Why not host a SAFE FYB week on your own blog too? If you do, let me know and I’ll share a link to that too.

I think I've mentioned The Maltese Raven,
A Game of Pulitzer,
and my Julie Bindel parody a million times each.

More recently,
my favourite is about the day I took my cat to the vet,
and came home without her,
but it's flocked...

Lol, for a moment there, I thought you were saying something bad had happened to the post, then I realized you just meant 'friends locked' :)

Not flocked-up,
just flocked...

Belly Up for an Egg Cream
I had one of those Proustian moments when The New York Times ran a story on preservation efforts in the Lower East Side of the city. Happily, they didn’t call it the “East Village,” named when the hippies left and the kids moved in using Dad’s credit card. The story included a photo of Gems Spa at the southwest corner of Second Avenue and St. Mark’s Place in 1969. That might even be me — if you squinted — standing at the window waiting for my egg cream. And, there's more, at http://allotropiclucubrations.blogspot.com/2012/01/belly-up-for-egg-cream.html.

Re: Belly Up for an Egg Cream
Thanks, Jon. Marcel Proust immortalized the past in his recherche du temps perdu. I wrote Cruising the Green of Second Avenue to fictionalize those golden moments in 1969.

I don't get to see my grandchildren very often, and I treasure the times that I do. The little ones grow so quickly, and they are so very different each time I see them.

When one of my grandaughters was at the stage when her brain was acting like a sponge and soaking up all it could, I was amazed and proud. I liked to make up games that we could play that would use her newly acquired skills or knowledge.

One I called the colors game. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun, so I wanted to continue.

Apparently tired of the game, she headed for the door, saying, "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!"

Lol, I did try to find your name, but your Tex Files blog didn't have it on there either. Let me know if you want me to add it here.

Love on the High Seas - DTTarkus
I'm new to GLVWG, but not new with a few other groups and blogs. A great idea Jon, this sharing thing. I blog as DTTarkus with BlameItOnTheMuse.com, a lone Y chromosome in a sea of XX. One I'll share is my entry about "Love on the High Seas".

Two hundred years ago, sailors considered the presence of women on ships to be bad luck. Much has changed since then. Today, men and women, young and old, can find or rekindle the spark on hundreds of cruise ships. Okay, that came across like an advertisement, but what better subject to deliberate on the eve of Valentine’s Day than love on the high seas?

Thank you so much for the opportunity, Jon. Yes, I'll do the same in the very near future.
