Curses! Outmanouvered by my own brain...again

For the last few weeks my brain has been trying to tell me something important about my current WiP, Abraham Lincoln Stole my Homework.

Seeing as how brains are supposed to be the smartest part of a person, you'd think it would have had the sense to just come right out with it, but as usual, I had to piece the clues together myself.

It's been like those conversations in subtext we sometimes have with loved ones. You know the kind of thing I mean, one side claims everything's all fine and hunky doo-dah, but the underlying subtext is: 'Of course there's something wrong, and no I won't just tell you because if you really knew me, you wouldn't have to ask.'

I've a pretty complete outline for ALSMH, so I expected to whip through the first draft stage at a brisk pace, but with every passing day I found the going a little harder. Turns out my brain knew what the problem was all along. At around 3am this morning, it finally decided to let me in on the secret.

I should be writing this in first person.

I know, I know, we had this same argument weeks ago already (I even posted about it), but apparently, when it comes to writing, my brain seems to think it's in charge, the rest of me's just hired help, obeying orders and doing what it's told.

So, rip it up and start again.

I managed the first 1,000 words this morning and yes, if you're reading this, brain, you were right. It's much better this way. But next time do me a favor, would you? Bloomin' well tell me right away.

Stupid brain.
