The Avengers

I saw The Avengers yesterday.

Excellent movie!

I'm a big fan of Joss Whedon's work (with the exception of Dollhouse). I love the way he weaves humor into his writing. I'd say this is possibly the best superhero movie I've seen to date.

How about you?

How do you feel about Joss Whedon's Avengers movie?

Good, but not great.
Didn't meet my expectations.
Not seen it yet, but I'm gonna.
I'll wait for the DVD
Not my cup of tea.
Something else, which I'll explain in the comments.

Best Marvel movie so far. Exceeded all expectations. Mark Ruffalo gets big kudos for being the best actor to portray Dr. Banner/Hulk. Hands down best performance of the group in my opinion, edging out RDJ. But as an ensemble, they all got good screen time, and were able to have moments to shine. As a long time comics fan, this has felt like the most true to a comic book experience as any movie I've seen. I don't think DC has a chance to match it. Though I do look forward to the final Chris Nolan Batman movie.

I'm already excited about seeing The Avengers again, though I expect it'll be on DVD.

Did you see the trailer for Prometheus? There's been a lot of buzz, but I'm not too sure what to expect from thsi ine.

I absolutely LOVED it! So much that we're planning to see it again. Very soon. :)

My son's already set up two more trips to see it this week :)

I will say it was better than good. I wouldn't go as far as outstanding. But I really, really, really, liked it. I was prepared to do a lot of eye rolling. I don't think I did one time. It won me over. I have recommended to others.

Everyone in the audience laughted aloud a few times, which is always a good sign :)

I had figured I'd get around to seeing "The Avengers" and then someone menetioned in an off handed sort of way that it had been written and directed by Whedon. My face made an expression he (laughingly) called "Nerd-vanna."

Lol :)

There was about a year in which the only TV I watched was written by Joss Whedon, but then I ran out of his DVDs and watched "Dead Like Me" and "Six Feet Under." It was a morbid year for me.

Totally exceeded my expectations! I can't remember the last time I left the cinema so happy.

Until the weekend, I'd have said Captain America were my favorites, but this was even better :)

Can you tell which live-action movie first teamed the Hulk with Thor?
May. 14th, 2012 08:13 pm (UTC)
didn't Thor appear in an episode of The Hulk once?
May. 14th, 2012 08:27 pm (UTC)
Yes, in TV movie from 1988. Before that though, there had been 1986's "Adevtnures in Babysititng", where 'Thor' was played by Vincent d'Onofrio. No Hulk though. My question should have been about the first live-action movie featuring Thor.

I remember Adventures in Babysittin. Fun movie :)

I had no plans to see this movie. I enjoyed the Iron Man films, but Captain America, Thor, and the abominations that were the attempts at the Hulk movies hadn't impressed me much (though Captain America was better than Thor IMO--except Loki was awesome). Then one of my sisters went and saw it and called me to ask if I'd seen it. When I mentioned I wasn't going to, she acted like I'd committed a heinous crime. When she said it was Whedon's work I understood why (we're both fans).

So now that I know Whedon's in charge, I plan to watch The Avengers . . . hopefully it will still be in theaters when I'm feeling better (been sick this whole week but got antibiotics yesterday). But if I'm well enough this weekend (and maybe I'll drag myself to the theater even if I'm not), I'm going to see Dark Shadows first. =)

Have you had a chance to see it yet?
May. 15th, 2012 05:36 pm (UTC)
Well, I saw parts of it. =( I ended up going on Saturday night with my oldest son, his girlfriend, and my two youngest kids. Not too long into the start of the movie, youngest son said he didn't feel good and wanted to go home. I called hubby and he came to get him. At almost the end of the movie, youngest daughter started having a panic attack--saying she couldn't breathe and was going to die (she is prone to seizures so we take these things seriously). I had to take her out of the theater so I missed the end--and the stuff during/after the credits.

I hope to get a chance to see the movie again (planning on going tomorrow). I LOVED what I did get to see of it! Laughed so much!!

Not the kind of action-packed Saturday you expected. I hope everyone is okay now.

We'll be fine once we get rid of the Strep throat that's plaguing our house right now. *sigh* That was why youngest son didn't feel well and why daughter was freaking out (she had mucus in her throat and was afraid she was going to suffocate). Good times. ;-)
