How's your weekend shaping up?

After a somewhat depressing three hours in the dentist chair on Friday morning, I'm having an excellent weekend so far. On Friday afternoon, I treated myself to Darth Vader's voice on my TomTom GPS. It's worth driving past your turn just to hear him say, 'Do not disappoint me again'

Yesterday morning, I went to do a 'Meet the Author' talk at the WH Walters Library in Alpha, NJ. I've had my name on flyers outside a library before, but never on a proper sign. Definitely a 'Savor the Moment' moment. I met several young writers, one 14-yr-old lad had even written a complete novel. Definitely someone to keep an eye on!

In the afternoon, I moderated an NJAN panel/Q&A at Edison Library, NJ, with fellow New Jersey Authors Network members, Hildy Silverman, Gary Frank, Jim 'JJ' Lair and Dan Wilensky. Great fun, as always.

This morning, I reached another milestone in my quest to get in shape (or at least into a somewhat less round shape). The Wii Fit managed not to sound too surprised when it informed me I've lost 25 pounds since the end of January. I'm now just 13 pounds from my ideal weight. All in all, a good couple of days.

How about you?

How's your weekend shaping up?

Spent Saturday at the semi-annual Chiller Theatre autograph and collectible show in Parsippany, NJ. I've been attending this convention faithfully since 2000 along with my fiancee who is also a fellow autograph collector. It has moved twice since then but I hope it remains at the Parsippany Hilton. It's a very nice area.

Some of the celebs included Dean Cain, Parker Stevenson, Bob Gunton, Richard Lynch and more. Here is a quick recap with pics:

We were home by 3:30PM which was plenty of time to write another 2,000 words in the first SF short story I'm working on for an anthology due out late next year. All told, not a bad day.

Conversely, today I'm housecleaning. Talk about highs and lows....

Housecleaning is a great way to occupy your conscious self while thinking about story ideas :)

I finally got a plunger,
and set to unclogging the kitchen,
meeting with limited success.
So I decided I'd have to pull the trap,
and went into the bathroom to wash my hands,
figuring I'd have coffee before plumbing the depths,
so to speak.

I discovered a stunning likeness of Lake Erie on my bathroom floor.
Everything that had begrudginly gone down the kitchen drain
had come up the bathroom drain.

*blink*

Other than that,
I can't complain...

Come to think of it,
that may be more appropriate than the word I used.

And, honestly, the excellence of your weekend
does help to offset the dreariness of mine, somehow...

Jon, what a great sign. Wish I could have gone there--Alpha is so close.

Did you encourage that 14 year-old author to attend the Write Stuff next year? Kieryn was probably that same age when she wrote and published her first book (eigth to ninth grade), and she met her publisher at the Write Stuff a few years back. Now she's 17, has two books published, and is working on her third. Very inspiring.

I'm trying to get some writing done today, but I have to stop checking email and Facebook--too many distractions.

I talked up Kieryn (she's a fellow Echelon Press author).

BTW, I haven't forgotten your blog questions.

Jon, that was an awesome pic! And Vader wasn't bad either.

Is that Jon with the sword
and Vader next to the sign?

Your weekend was busy. I can't say the same about mine. Compared to yours, mine was a snooze all the way through. However, I'm feeling good these days while is a little new to me. For so long, I've been fighting with my health and I can now say that I've won a few battles. No the war, mind you but there's hope there.

Glad you had a nice weekend.
Mine involved some Hugo-nominee reading.
