I came across this post yesterday.  It's an offer from Realms of Fantasy's publisher, Warren Lapine, to post six, free, color, advertisements (each one over 4" by 2") for small press and semi-pro sci-fi, fantasy and horror magazines in all future issues of RoF.

Now, a more cynical person than me might wonder if Mr. Lapine's offer is part of an effort to mend some fences after last week's flame-war that wasn't a flame war about Realms of Fantasy covers.

Frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn.  I don't care why Warren Lapine made this offer.  The important thing is that he gets taken up on it.  Anything that helps promote the smaller magazines is a good thing for us non-professionally paid writers.

I already copied the above link to Hildy Silverman at Space And Time magazine.  If you know anyone at a non-professional paying sci-fi/fantasy/horror publication, please spread the word.

Speaking of Space And Time, here's the cover pick from the latest issue.

I don't know about you, but I love that dragon.  It reminds me of something out of a 1980's video game

Also, if you missed my interview with S&T's Hildy Silverman last month, she just did one with Mike Ventrella

Thanks. I'm sure real dragons aren't nearly so cuddly-looking :)

Do you know of a small print magazine you could share the RoF offer with?

Yeah, Norman Spinrad was in the issue before last. I met Hildy through the GSHW. She's a lovely lady :)

I love that dragon! To the point that I'm now trying to get a print of it to hang in my library. =)

I can't think of any magazines to tap though... I generally buy them only when I know someone with a story in them and I've just now realized that I haven't seen the stack since I moved... Or, more likely, I saw it well before things were unpacked enough for me to know where the magazines were going and they're now floating around in one of the boxes of "stuff to deal with later." (It's later now, but I don't wanna deal!)

That is one cool dragon :)

Tomorrow, I plan to run through my 'who to pitch to' list and pick out all the semi-pro magazines so I can let them know about RoF's offer.

What a cool idea!

I don't doubt people will suspect the guy's motives, but I don't think that's important, do you? :)

Well, I would rather people do good things from questionable motives than bad things from well-intentioned but stupid motives.

Absolutely :)

Oh, that is a fine dragon! I love his (her?) expression!

Lol, there aren't many dragons you wouldn't mind having as a pet, but that's one of them :)

A very impressive offer from Realms of Fantasy, and one that can only help speculative fiction. If I published solely spec fic, I'd take them up on the offer in less than a heartbeat. On a side note, Space & Time has a long history of extraordinary cover art (although, in the interest of full disclosure, I am biased as my short fiction appeared in Issue 104).

Sorry I missed your story - the first issue I bought was #105, the one with the spaceman on the cover.

They have a great 'past covers' page on their website. i think my favorite if the elephant with the bowler hat :)
