The clean up after Hurricane Irene continues.

We were lucky, the power only went out for about five hours, which meant the basement only flooded an inch or two.

I've spent way more time using the vacuum washing thingy to suck water from the carpets than I'd have liked, but after three days of constant dehumidifying, they're almost dry now. Mind you, they'll still have to go.

Every time I find myself feeling down about all this hassle, I remind myself that some folks still haven't had their power restored, and that others had major house damage.

To cheer myself up, I've been watching some of my favorite YouTube videos

Here's my favorite:

A close second would be this one. The best cover version of Bohemian Rhapsody ever. Miss Piggy steals the show, as always:

Last, but not least, the best movie trailer ever.

How about you?

That Free Hugs video was great, great song, and I warmed up to the concept after just about a minute or two.

What a great idea. A basic human need that is lacking... we are hug-undernourished.

If this idea works in the shopping centers and public areas, I think the next step is obvious:

Move it into our maximum security prison system. Those criminals probably never got hugged, either as kids or as adults. It might be what they need to improve their self-esteem and stimulate good behaviour and give them a reason to get released early.

Thanks for sharing that video!

You're very welcome. I still can't watch it without getting a lump in my throat--much like the Where's Matt video: they both say something so wonderful about human ability to love one another, something it feels wonderful to be reminded of.

Our whole family was really moved by the Free Hugs video--my younger daughter and her friends went in to a nearby city to give out free hugs after seeing it.

(It can be a little problematic in real life, keeping it on the up and up, and not letting it be exploitative in one direction or the other, but the basic instinct and desire I think is just wonderful--you can see it in the face of the guy in the video, and in the faces of all the people who respond)
