The clean up after Hurricane Irene continues.

We were lucky, the power only went out for about five hours, which meant the basement only flooded an inch or two.

I've spent way more time using the vacuum washing thingy to suck water from the carpets than I'd have liked, but after three days of constant dehumidifying, they're almost dry now. Mind you, they'll still have to go.

Every time I find myself feeling down about all this hassle, I remind myself that some folks still haven't had their power restored, and that others had major house damage.

To cheer myself up, I've been watching some of my favorite YouTube videos

Here's my favorite:

A close second would be this one. The best cover version of Bohemian Rhapsody ever. Miss Piggy steals the show, as always:

Last, but not least, the best movie trailer ever.

How about you?

The Where the hell is Matt is also a favorite around here. My daughter loves to dance right along with it! It's just such a delight to see so many people just cutting loose and smiling!

Watching it never fails to make me smile, especially the Indian dancing part :)

I don't usually watch the videos,
but only listen to the songs...
but if I had to pick a video I actually like,
it would be the Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories one about making a Bristlebot...

Really? You couldn't have chosen his version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for my 'child-friendly' blog? :P

Nice sound, even though I don't understand the words :)

Sorry to hear about your basement, though I'm glad it wasn't worse. I really really love the Where's Matt video too. It's one of the Best Things.

I also like the original Free Hugs video, and I like the Danny MacAskill bicycle parkour videos--among many many others.

What a beautiful video. It got me quite choked up. Thanks for sharing, Francesca :)

I have the Oscar-winning one tagged, and I watch it about once a week!

If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend Francesca's 'Free Hugs' pic too :)

My favorite one has always been this. Mcdonalds giving out free razors with their meals.

So glad to hear you escaped with minimal hassle (contextually speaking, of course--I'm sure it didn't feel minimal all those times you had to wet vac!).

Thanks, Renee :)

I adore Matt! I think what he does is a blessing; he's making the whole world smile. But I can't resist sharing these three, by my talented teens:

"Cheap Sheep" http://youtu.be/yOWjClNKyH4
"Hitting Moron" http://youtu.be/s-tRJv5hyXw
"May 27th" http://youtu.be/Peuya4ukTic

This last one may be the most accomplished film the kids did - the messed-up formatting is my fault, not theirs. I had to take the film down to redo the credits.

Excellent! they're all good, but I love that last one. I thought it was a teacher, and they'd all got 'C' grades, but of course, I was wrong. Great ending.

Thanks for sharing, Mary :)

That IS the best cover version of Bohemian Rhapsody ever :).
Sep. 1st, 2011 10:20 am (UTC)
I loled out loud the first time I heard Miss Piggy sing that last line, and what a great ending with Kermit and Scooter :)

I see my favOrite characters in there:

Waldorf: Hey look, an orchestra of penguins!

Statler: Yeah, probably took the job for the halibut!

The sound quality on this isn't the best, but here they are, together again:

Statler and Waldorf

Lol, I love those guys. They had great lines in some of the Muppet movies too :)

We made this video for a competition that's running at the moment. It's our son's number 4 favourite video this week (after Handlebars by Flobots, 19-2000 and Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz):

He was very well behaved for the greenscreen shots!

I bet Dominic was glad of those magic pajamas!

Hey, Jon, I don't know if you're still looking for videos to brighten your basement mop up, but I remembered this flash mob at Heathrow and thought of you:

I do love those flash mobs :)
