I do not love the smell of soggy basement in the morning.

It reminds me of Hurricane Irene.

Thanks, Mike. Considering the state some other folks found themselves in, I'm counting myself among the lucky ones.

Compared to some, we were very lucky indeed. How about you, Ed?

We live in Monmouth County, which had a few tornado warnings, so we slept downstairs. Fortunately, my daughters treated it as a bit of an adventure :)

I was originally going to title this post "I'm all wet, Mr. Mainwaring." But then I figured most of my American friends (and quite a few of my younger British ones) wouldn't get the Dad's Army reference ;)

Oh so sorry. My MIL is in NJ too and she had about a foot of water in the basement. The power went out and the sump pump went off and you know the rest. Sympathy.

A foot? Yeuch!

We had an inch or two, but as luck would have it, the power was only out for about five hours, so the sump pump came back on. Like I said above, I count this as a lucky escape compared to some - a mile down the road from us, they've been told they won't get power back for another couple of days :(

I'm definitely buying one of those emergency power unit thingies, in preparation for the next big storm

Well, of course, it's good that you still have something above your basement,
but that doens't make it any less soggy...

More than I'd have liked, but a lot less than some poor souls. How about you, Misha?

So sad to hear you got damage. I hope clean up goes smoothly.

More damp than damage, thank goodness.

This morning and this afternoon, we've been going over the carpeted areas with the carpet cleaner/vacuum thingy (and by 'we', I mean, Senior Management for the most part). I've been clearing and/or throwing out soggy bits and pieces, most of which should have gone out years ago anyway.

Fun, fun. Glad you went through it ok. I have many memories of nights spent in my parent's walk-in closet &/or my grandparents basement.

Alas! Too true. Did I tell you my Dad and my sister were singing "Good Night, Irene" for two days before she hit. Good night, indeed!

And I hope the basement is soon dry, and that you didn't lose anything important in the flood.

The carpet'll have to go, but I don't see much point replacing it. Other than that, all we've lost is sleep and time :)

We were very lucky, but Boyfriend has no power, still. Minimal water, even without the power.

What a week.

Thanks, Pat. Sadly, they weren't quick enough. It's been 48 hours now and the basement carpets are still pretty damp, which means they'll have to go :(
