Welcome to the third (of seven) qualifying rounds to find the winner of this year's Meager Puddle of Limelight Award for Best Short Story Title.

Here's how it works:

The winners of rounds 1-6 automatically make the cut. The 2nd place finishers go forward into Round 7 to battle it out for the last place in the final. In the case of a tie, both (or all) tied entries go through.

I was torn on MOPED TO HELL because for a second I wasn't sure if it was Mo-Ped (the vehicle) or moped (as in the past tense of mope), which suggested the story was about someone down in the dumps and feeling like hell. I decided it was probably Moped (the vehicle) to Hell, which is clever imagery but English screws it up because the word can be read two ways. That robs the title of a lot of its punch.

I thought it refered to someone in hell,
who had gotten there by moping around,
and would spend eternty wishing she'd looked up and enjoyed life
while she had the chance.
Then I realized it was probaly moped to Hell,
which didn't sound nearly as interesting.

You like one meaning, I prefer the other, but neither of us is happy with the indecision.

Ambiguity in a title can be an enticement;
but it doesn't always work...

And now I'm thinking of a variation on a bad old joke...

-I can't join you in the twilight of the gods tonight, I'm starting my Ring Cycle.
-I'll follow you on my moped.

My mind went straight to the vehicle.

You're not one to mope around.
