You're welcome, as always. Anything in particular catch your eye this week?

Sheldon's. I thought that was great. I'm trying to steer clear of all this Amazon ranking bookscan stuff. It's everywhere! And I truly don't want to walk down the mad path of tracking my stats.

I stopped in at Renee Sweet's blog and loved the quote she had on rules. I attended a workshop given by Cameron McClure some time ago in which she talked about the rules of writing, why we need them and when it's okay to break them, so it was interesting to get Renee's take on the topic, too. Thanks for the link (and all the others, of course... I just haven't gotten to all of them yet).

How fascinating that two of these are about the same thing--rules/guidelines. You gotta love it when synergy happens.

Renee Sweet's post on rules (or lack thereof), as well as Helen Ginger's on using words to establish mood (something that I'm always striving to accomplish in my own work).

Thanks. My only rule is "Edit your work." I hate to see 'hot off the press work' which is never brilliant.

I agree.

You hear the occasional story about someone selling a first draft of a story, but it's a rare thing.

I don't doubt there are one or two folks who are good enough/well known enough (and the market they pitched to, open enough) to pull it off, but if you ask me, there's no such thing as a first draft that can't be improved upon.

Thanks for sharing :)
