It's the little things...

On Saturday, I took the family for our weekend treat, a fancy meal at a local restaurant.

When it was my turn to order, I turned the volume down on the CD player so the guy on the intercom could hear me. So far, so normal, but just after I paid for our food, one of my daughters called out from the back of the car. She said 'Louder' and twisted her hand to mime the action of turning up the sound.

Senior Management and I sat in stunned silence for a moment. Neither of my teenage daughters can communicate well - they can't even tell you they're in pain, unless you encourage them. It's rare indeed for one of them to make a specific, verbal request without being prompted.

Needless to say, we made a huge fuss of her and I turned the sound up right away, even if it was Cliff Richard singing.*

It quite made my day.

How about you?

How was your weekend?

*Just kidding, I actually like old Cliff. He recorded some great songs

*blink*

That is more than a little amazing.
I moved to to tears thinking about it.
Yeah, I know it doesn't take a lot to get me crying,
but that really is--well, I can see how it would make your day.

I was more stunned than anything at the time, but I don't mind admitting that I shed a manly tear about it later :)

BTW, Cliff Richards is okay, but I like Cliff Hanger better...

The high point of my weekend was inadvertently getting a young boy to laugh
during his baby brother's baptism.
Oops.

Lol, making faux flatulant noises in church is a timeless classic that works on adults and children alike. Of course, my old gran wouldn't have stood for it - she provided the real thing ;)
You might say I'd gotten wind of that. - msstacy13 - Dec. 6th, 2010 04:36 pm (UTC) - Expand

That must have been a real shocker, Jon. Even if it never happens again, it's one for the memory book.

Oh, it'll happen again. I'll be turning that volume down a lot over the coming months, that much is certain :)

My weekend wasn't nearly that good. That is awesome, Jon!

Mine consisted of worrying the kids were getting sick again and trying not to fall off the roof while I hung Christmas lights in the dark.

Good times.

They are indeed.

Just a suggestion, but next year, why don't you plug the Christmas lights in before you put them up? That way, you'll be able to see what you're doing ;)

OMG that's AWESOME Jon. :) :) :) I know you were soooo happy. As for my weekend, it was teach 3 classes on Sat, then shop for all the things for 2 birthday parties. Sunday do 2 birthday parties and the clean up, then film editing. By midnight last night, I was ready for that bed. LOL!!!

I remember Cliff Richard, it's been years since I heard his name or songs. Have a great week!!!
