When Plot Bunnies Attack!

I've had a cool story idea bouncing around inside my head for the last two days.  Since it clearly had no intention of leaving me alone, I decided to outline the whole thing this morning.

I've never written a proper science fiction story before (at least, not one set on a spaceship), so this has been a new and fun experience.  I have to say, this is the kind of distraction I like.   I may even write a proper first draft before I get back to what I should be doing.

How about you?

What have your plot bunnies being up to lately?

Psst. "Bunnies," not "Bunny's."

And I apologize for being That Guy...

You saved me from being 'That Girl' who was a smart ass and said 'when rogue apostrophes attack!' ;)

Aside from edits on a completed story, I'm writing a crossover fanfic involving characters from Merlin and Flashpoint. I need hardly tell you this will be a work of genius.

Lol, just make sure you don't muck up those apostrophes :)

I've been having plot bunnies about the nature of recording plot bunnies, coming up with new bunnies, and making sure those plot bunnies mature.

There's a contest I want to do well in and my thoughts have been going to ideas that may be better suited for producing a winner. So, thinking up SF ideas, with "literary" undertones, and which are long enough to be about just shy of 17k words.

Making my stories more literary is now a goal. This has me thinking up ideas in new and interesting ways. For instance, starting with a theme and working backwards. Normally, I start with a character, and then figure out their problem.

Is it any wonder writers don't have many friends if the first thing they ask folks is 'What's your problem?' :)

oh, i have been working on a new idea. research. research. it will be fantasy. it is based on myths about mirrors. and it will be . . . well a big undertaking i think. but i won't start on it for a few months. i still have two MS's i need to edit and figure out what i will do with them. decisions. decisions.

Ah, research. The plot bunny's natural selection process :)

As far as plot bunnies go, my latest has turned into a Flemish Giant. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_Giant)

So far it's got me thinking up four novels, with a possible fifth or perhaps a sequel series. I never plan this far out for anything.

That's one productive plot bunny :)

I don't write that many short stories, either. I do have one kicking around that's about parallel universes.

I've been distracted from my main project by a ghost story :-)

Just so long as it's a good ghost story :)

I love it when plot bunnies provide solutions to existing story problems :)

I've renamed the latest one a plot "monkey" cause it's all about monkeys. I think it's a good idea for a MG/YA book, vaguely outlined it in my writers notebook (from my summer program), but now I've got research to do about monkeys.

Consequently stored in a Word file. Gets quite crowded there, pure bunnies.

As you know, my killer plot bunny gave me a whole YA contemporary novel, which I still love and am revising.

Love the plot bunny. The plot bunny is our friend. Except, of course, when it distracts us from what we are supposed to be doing. Even then, though, it's important to pay attention to plot bunnies. If they stick around long enough, they're there for a reason.

Yeah, if they refuse to leave, you know they're worth paying attention to :)

My bunnies kept me company in hospital, too sick to read so I drifted in and out of vivid images and daydreams of the world of my story.

I've been thinking a lot about my next WIP, but I've been getting distracted by ideas for something completely different. Very annoying!
