When my time comes (hopefully many years and plenty of bestsellers/movie deals etc. in the future), I'll have one last piece of writing to publish, but it won't be in print, or even digital form.

My last words will be carved in stone (or marble - depending on how cheap my surviving relatives are).  I'm thinking, of course, of the words I want chiselled into my gravestone.

Here's what I thought I'd have put on mine:

or perhaps this:

Not that I'm the first of my family to chose our own words for the headstone:

How about you?

What last words would you like to be remembered by?

This isn't funny,
and once I get out from under this rock,
I'm kicking somebody's ass.

And if I'm buried somewhere other than Nebraska,
I'd like to have a Nebraska-shaped tombstone.

Also, my plan is to have my body replaced with a spring-loaded mannequin
just before the memorial service,
and as the casket is being taken out after the service,
one of the pall-bearers is to take a deliberate pratfall,
and as what appears to be my body flies out,
the organist is to begin playing Mancini's Pie in the Face Polka

I hope at least half the crowd will be gasping for breath from laughing so hard,
and the other half wetting their pants...

It's always a good idea to plan ahead, don't you think?

My personal fave was Spike Milligan's 'See, I told you I was ill.' :)

I'd probably have them carve Cloris Leachman's final words from film noir Kiss Me Deadly

I'm tempted by Winstone Churchill's superb quote:
"I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter."

and this one I read on the web somewhere:
"Well that was fun, let's do it again sometime."

but I think I'm most tempted to go with James Agate's turn on an old headstone joke...
"Don't pity me now, don't pity me never;
I'm going to do nothing for ever and ever."
