The last couple of weeks have been fun, but more hectic than I usually prefer. First, we had a wedding to attend. The following Monday, my (much) older brother and his wife came over from England for a visit. It was great to see them, but after a few days, I noticed my daughters withdrew into themselves a bit (their way of coping with a change in the routine). By the end of the week, Emma had pretty much become a hermit in her bedroom, Rachel kept herself in the basement, playing the computer, or lazing on the sofa bed. That's not to say that they didn't join us for meals of course , and they surfaced for hugs and cuddles at regular intervals.
Aside from withdrawing, Emma must have felt left out after her sister's trip to the hairdresser (see earlier post), so she gave herself a 1920's style self-cut (as opposed to Rachel's GI Jane look). I have to admit, though it needed seeing to, she didn't do a bad job. Needless to say, we've hidden all remaining sharp objects and are watching their older brother like a hawk, in case he decides to tinker with his do.
Last night's storm kept everyone awake, so we're all walking around like extras on a George A. Romero movie, but all in all, things have calmed down.
