Burned out?

It's the oddest feeling, but for about a week now, I've felt strangely unmotivated to do...well, pretty much anything.

I suspect it's a sort of burnout, caused by far too much excitement this past couple of months.

Anyhoo, I've decided the best cure is to give myself a weekend off.  I'll be reading my flists, but not making any new blog posts until Monday (when I'll be a guest on Jim Hines's blog).

If we don't see each other on someone else's comment thread before that, I'll see you then.

ETA: Thank you very much for all your kind comments.  They're much appreciated.

And I, of course, will be thinking of you as I read.

Were you writing a lot? Writing is a great activity, but you can feel as if your brain has been sucked out by a hoover :)

Hope you will soon once more find your groove.

I felt that way back in April. Sometimes, you just need to step back.

Enjoy your weekend, and what solitude you can muster. :)

I'll catch up on your posts soon. I've been so busy at work and it was hard to see friends posts when I had little details up. They're a great group but they post a lot.

I try to take a break from lj on the weekends. I'm taking your advice and going to see a movie with a bunch of friends this weekend.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July, Jon.

There's no shame in burn-out! Happens to us all. Sometimes it takes more than a few days to come back from it too...

We've all been there. I'm there now, sitting on the back porch drinking a CC & cola, waiting for the heat to go away.

What, you didn't expect a little after-sizzle from releasing your first novel? Go take a break, you deserve it! Sit in the summer sun with a nice cool beverage of your choice, and take a couple of long glances at your name on your book.

Glad you're taking the time off. All the blogging on writing and working on writing requires vacation just as we need time off with a job. Relax, rejuvenate, have fun!

It happens; it's happened to me. Somebody had to tell me not to worry, the muse was just refilling the tank. It'll all come back soon.
They were right, I was back writing two weeks later.
Enjoy your vacation! ;)

There can be such a thing as too much excitement.

enjoy today.

One thing more...
Although Fur-face was written for the "young adult" market, it's written well enough that adults of all ages will enjoy it. While it's entirely new and fresh, I found it pleasantly reminiscent of several timeless works, in particular the "Freddy the Pig" books. My only caveat is that the word "hell" turns up half-a-dozen times; but that's considerably less than the industry standard for a text of this length, so I unequivocally give it five stars.

I know the feeling. I am quite burned out and unmotivated at the moment, but by things going on in my everyday life and not by writing. Still, makes it hard to sit down and write fiction when you're pre-occupied with other things.
