Gentleman Jones

There was a band called 'Gentleman Jones'
They tried to sound like the Rolling Stones,
and they were pretty good
(until you heard them start to play)

I thoroughly enjoyed my years as lead warbler in Gentleman Jones.  I've been having loads of fun deciding which songs to include in the special edition CD for the Summer Fur-Face promotion.  Mind you, some of the choices are easy, like the one below.

This was always one of my personal favorites.  Sometimes, the lyrics just come to you.

Aside from the music for the two Fur-Face trailers, I haven't written any songs or music since I moved to the US, I decided I should focus on the fiction side of writing.  I miss it sometimes, but I think I made the right decision.

OMG Jon I think this song was AWESOME!!!! I don't know why you all would not make it as a band. Some of the stuff out there now and back then is and was pure trash. LOL!!!

I need to go and read about the Summer Fur Face Promotion I must have missed that post. But I will definitely check it out. Espcially if a CD is involved. :)

Hugs

*applause*

I especially like the bit about the audience singing the chorus during your other songs. :)

They sometimes threw things too, but I couldn't come up with a rhyme for 'icecubes and bottles' ;)

Curse this lack of sound... bleh. I'll listen as soon as I have sound, either once the Irish Sailor gets home, or once I get desperate enough to pull out my work computer. :) Looking forward to listening.

For a long time I heard nothing but bad things about this band (all from the band's keyboard player), but this was a good song. I enjoyed it.

Yeah, that keyboard player's always poking fun at Gentleman Jones. I think he's upset because he secretly wanted to be on vocals ;)

You Rock! Thank you for sharing a piece of your past rocker days. Your music reminds me of a lot of the music that John Hughes used in his 80's movies. I loved those groups. I would have been a BIG fan of your group.

Thanks, Jon. Cool! I was pogo dancing to it at work. Just kidding. You did pogo dance or jump into the mosh pit, right?

*sigh* Brings back some memories.

Ah, the pogo dance. Back in '78, that little maoueuver resulted in a trip to the hospital for me - I always did have two left feet :(

!! I love this song, hahaha. Great humor. And actually, very catchy, so you sort of want to sing along except you're laughing. The video is great fun too--we've all seen your brand of humor on the blog; it's fun to see it in other venues too.

I have to track down a whole CD somewhere. The music and humorous tone are reminding me a bit of the band my daughter's boyfriend is in (well, some of their songs at least)--when they first record songs, they do the music only, with whatever lyrics come to mind, like old socks. But at one of their last shows, my daughter said they did unfinished new song with the placeholder lyrics, and it was good because it was so crazy.

Have to say, I like the style of music :)

Sadly, there are no GENTLEMAN JONES CDs out in the wild anymore. We used to be on Peoplesound.com and Vitaminic.com, but they both went under (or changed, or something).

We actually did quite well on Vitaminic. One of our other songs, Send for Mr. Bond was the #1 download on their 'Rock' chart for a while (Gentleman Jones made it to #2 at the same time).

Right decision? Yeah, as long as it's a decision that lets you right music for trailers and such. Because not everyone has even the ability to right any kind of music.

Yer ol' gran sounds a right hoot.

Thanks for sharing the past Jon, it was a great song!
And between the song and Terri's review on her blog http://bogwitch64.livejournal.com/218195.html (Sorry don't really know how to but the link to LJ user yet in comments!) I so much want to read Furr-face.
