And in an unrelated matter,
Kindle for PC on my PC wouldn't open,
whether I double-clicked or right-clicked and selected open.
I don't know what the problem was, I only know that I have no patience for such things.
So I uninstalled it, and thus won't be reading Barnum's Revenge after all.
I wouldn't mention such unpleasantness,
but I didn't want you to think I'd read it and disliked it.

"Readers aren't elephants" is a good tip for posting on our writing-office walls!

I liked the one about readers and memories (and yay for "A Universal Truth of Writing: It's Never the Reader's Fault!") I tend to like the way Wodehouse and Chandler and the like ise metaphor and imagery to fix an immediate and lively image that they can call up later with just a few words, so the reader remembers the "sheep with a secret sorrow" or whatever.

Thing is, we can't all be Wodehouse and Chandler. Probably we none of us can, but that doesn't stop me trying :)

Jane Friedman's post on writing a bio is very insightful. I'd recommend reading through the comments, too.
