The one about characters acting like idiots is a good reminder (and I think we all need a reminder every so often)... my mantra is, that if your character has to do (or not do) something or you don't have a story...? You don't have a story.

Especially if it involves investigating creepy noises in the attic during a blackout, when they're alone, only have one match, and no weapon. :)
