Seen any good movies lately?

I watched Spielberg's movie, Lincoln, yesterday.
Lincoln
Mostly, I wanted to see it for research purposes (I can use Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal to fine tune my own version of the great man), but it's also one of those films you hear so  much about, it makes you curious.

Spielberg's latest offering got so much publicity, it was hard to watch it without high expectations. Personally, while
I enjoyed it, I didn't feel it quite lived up to the hype - at least, so far as I'm concerned.

I do think it's one of those movies people (at least, American people) should see at least once. I liked how it showed Lincoln as someone less than perfect, while at the same time showing how hard he and (some of) his fellow Republicans worked to pass the 13th Amendment.

How about you?

Seen any good movies lately?

The best movie I've seen lately is Elvis Presley's
King Creole.
I was surprised; it had more to it than I had expected.
It also has Dean Jagger and Walter Matthau,
and several good songs.

Dean Jagger? Is he related to Michael? :)

I haven't watched it yet, but I have a Ringo Starr/Peter Sellers one from NetFlix. Something with "Christian" in the title. Hang on~

The Magic Christian.

I like comedies. Also horror, SF, some mysteries.....

But how did it compare to the portrayal of Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter?
Lots of good stuff in the theaters right now, if you like big CGI-heavy action stuff. Pacific Rim is probably the best of that group. Red 2 if you like your action straight up, with less CGI and more funny, with great performances. And The Wolverine is worth seeing just for the X-Men stinger during the credits.

I had heard this version of Lincoln was pretty interesting in that it portrayed him without the rose-colored lenses view we tend to always give him.

Hmm, I haven't seen too many movies lately. In fact, we just got rid of our Dish service since I'm tired of paying so much for essentially 2 channels. Plus, I want to encourage the kiddo to read, not watch tv.

We did go see The Croods at the cheap seats last week. Everyone laughed out loud constantly - it's been a long time since I saw a movie so funny. And the father was portrayed so fantastically - I loved how he would constantly fling himself around his family to protect them at all costs. And how his family may have taken him for granted at times, but they knew the one person they could always count on. Hurrah for strong father-figures!

I did read an interesting article by Ross Lawhead recently about how Superman has changed in the movies over the years, especially the most recent adaptation.

The Croods. Is that the prehistoric family one? If so, I remember seeing the trailer and thinking it looked funny :)

Yes, it's the caveman one. I thought the trailer looked cute but wasn't all that interested. But it ended up being really great.
