How was your weekend?

I had a grand day out on Saturday, when I took part in the first ever Authors on the Greene book fair, in Historic Smithville, New Jersey.

Organized by the wonderful Wendy Birkbeck, and her intrepid team of workers from the local, Through the Looking Glass Bookstore, we couldn't have asked for better weather, I made some new friends, met some new readers, like Priscilla and Britney pictured below, and generally had a great time.

To round off an already excellent day, I had a look around Wendy's store, and discovered she also sells British food, including the British version of McVities Plain Chocolate Digestive Biscuits (otherwise known as the most delicious cookies you'll ever taste in this or any other lifetime).

I had a good weekend. Had to work a lot, but I got to take the boys to a birthday party with some friends on Saturday and had a blast there, then on Sunday took them out for a few hours in the park. Accidentally left my phone behind, which meant for once, I was free from distraction and could just enjoy my time with the kids. A good day, followed by some dinner and then ice cream sundaes at Friendlys.

Cake AND ice cream? Sounds like a recipe for an excellent weekend :)

The boys most whole-heartedly agree with that assessment.

Smithville? I LOVE SMITHVILLE!!! We used to drive two and a half hours just to walk around there back when we lived in NJ. Great little place.

My only regret is I didn't get to ride on the train there :(

Friday I went to see Resident Evil with a friend. Milla Jovovich does her usual butt-kicking and looking good despite beating up a bunch of living-dead brain-suckers. My only criticism of this was there were not enough surprises and funny zombie moments and the snow didn't look real. Also the plot holes were big enough to drive a... Okay so it's just a video game movie. Still, if Umbrella corporation could build a facility under the ocean I'm sure they could find cures and solutions for every problem on the planet.

I've not seen the Resident Evil movies, but they do look fun :)

They're very silly but also very funny and vicarious. I had an issue when she started killing living people though in the third or fourth movie. I don't know if I can watch another incarnation unless they do something different. I got a little annoyed with the clones being bad one minute and good the next. It waters things down too much and the writers get away with things we'd never be allowed to get away with.

Yesterday my dogs had fun with their neighbor friends Olly, a boxer, Mia, a tri-color rough coat collie, and Ruby the rottweiler, while the humans talked about books and whatnot.

I'm glad you had a good time;
my weekend involved lunch at one of my favourite places
with some of my favourite people.

Lucky for me this wasn't a competition.

Yay, McVitie's! I was very happy when I found I could buy them at our local A&P - probably thanks to all my fellow Irishmen and women; they are in the Irish section along with lots of other delicious things like Ribena.

Congratulations on the new readers and on the weekend. It sounds like you had a great time. Did I tell you that your book is now on the shelf in my library? Well, it is!

There seem to be a lot more Irish sections than English ones in US stores, which makes sense, I suppose.

As for your library news, I didn't know. Thank you :)

I had a great weekend. It was my b-day yesterday so we celebrated early and went to visit friends 4 hours away. Hubby watched the munchkin and I got a girls night out. We ate out & went to a "paint your own pottery" place. I haven't done that in years and had forgotten how much fun it is.

The name Digestive biscuits gives me visions of Activia in cookie form or something... Wiki says they have antacid properties? Or are they just yummy?
