Just a quick FYI for any fellow Doctor Who fans here in the USA.:

At my local Target store today, I picked up the first half of the latest series (featuring the excellent Matt Smith as the Doctor) on DVD for a very reasonable $19.99.

The Bullseye thanks you!

(Okay, they haven't officially said so, but I'm sure the sentiment would be there if they knew about your post, Jon.)

Lol :)

I don't normally buy BBC stuff on DVD, they usually charge such an exhorbitant price eg: the previous season of Doctor Who is nearly $70, but this was a bargain - especially considering how many times I'll be watching it :)

I used to watch the earlier series but now can't understand what the actors are saying. Whatever nasty accent they mostly use is much too strong. I was fine right up until after Tom Baker. No problem understanding anyone.

I have and adore all the Agatha Christie DVDs. (Joan Hickson as Miss Marple of course). I have the Morse series and the Lewis series along with the Midsommer Murder Series and adore them. No problem understanding the accents, which are wonderful.

The new Whos have actors that speak as if a consonant was a rare and endangered species and to be preserved by not being enunciated. It almost degenerates to quacking. I find it throws me out of the story.

I know there are horrid accents from other places/countries and I find them distracting, too. The quacking just heads the list. I wish they would go back to the way it was.
