All great posts, Jon, thanks. Rachelle's piece on backstory was a helpful reminder as I've read similar advice from other agents and authors. Although I think my novel breaks Donald Maass' rule of no backstory in the first 50 pages.

But I'm OK with that. No readers have complained yet. :)

And Publish America came up in conversation at BaltiCon last weekend. Steer clear of them!
